167 Year Old California Catholic School Removes Statues of Mary and Jesus to be More Inclusive

Officials at the San Domenico School in California decided recently to remove the Catholic statues and icons in a move to be seen as more inclusive.

The school is celebrating its 167th year.

Removal of a number of statues and other smaller Catholic icons from the campus of San Domenico School in San Anselmo has raised concerns among some parents.

In an email to the school’s board of directors, Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and the head of school, Shannon Fitzpatrick objected to the removal of the statues and other steps the school has taken in an effort to make the school more inclusive.

“Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs,” wrote Fitzpatrick, whose 8-year-old son attends the school.

She added, “In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be ‘less Catholic,’ and the uniform was changed to be less Catholic.”

Responding to follow-up questions Monday, Fitzpatrick wrote, “There are other families having the same concerns I do. Many parents feel if the school is heading in a different direction then the San Domenico community should have been notified before the signing of the enrollment for the following year.”

Secular fools don’t understand Catholicism is the original “inclusive culture” and the reason we have this society!

this removal of monuments and now statues of a religious nature is going too far. Why are we as a nation bowing down to the violent, pay to protest thugs that have no conscience or morals ? This method of giving them what they want is wrong. We are rewarding their behavior and for what ? More rioting, baseball bats, tear gas lobbed at innocent people and the police ? What are we as a nation going to do in the future. let them continue to erase our nation’s history ? This needs to be stopped before it goes any further. If need be we should call out the National Guard to protect our historical monuments and to stop this lawlessness. We should pass laws that would make this behavior criminal and arrest these protesters now before it goes any further.

Remove your children from this school, it is evidently no longer the school that you enrolled your child in. Different ideas from what you at first thought. Ignoring the parents, just doing what they want, and be damned about the consequences. The Catholic schools are becoming very islam/muslim orientated..

I can’t help but wonder is the Catholic Church trying to protect this statue until the crazies leave?

It is a Catholic school. Anyone enrolling should have known there would be religious statues on the campus. If people could not figure that out maybe they need to be offended.

In a frenzy to be “politically correct”, these people are allowing the heritage of our country to be torn apart piece by piece. When will sanity reign again? Only when the majority will quit caving in to a few nut cases.

Those who decided to remove Catholic statues and icons are not Catholic in their hearts.

All this “inclusive” stuff is ridiculous! In an absurd effort to “iclude ” everyone, we are tampering with history, truth and everything that we should be holding dear. We are all different. What is WRONG with that? We ARE. There is nothing wrong with being different. I am Catholic, female, Irish-descent, married, a mother, animal-lover, many other things and YES…..old fashioned. I feel what I believe is the truth. If others are insecure in what they believe, then it’s their problem, and they should re-think their beliefs. In their insecurity, they should NOT touch MY beliefs.

So, in other words, in order to sell itself to “prospective” clients who are not Catholic, and to receive monetary recompense from them, this school has changed its look and its “make-up”, as well as the values it teaches: there’s a word for this, and it’s not “inclusion”, it’s “prostitution”!

It might as well be considered a public school instead of Catholic. Not even teaching what being a Catholic means. I would not pay tuition for this kind of school.
