‘A Disgrace to Our Country’: Trump Erupts After McCabe Admits the DOJ Tried to Remove Him From Office

President Donald Trump was not happy to hear reports that former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe admitted there was a plot within the Department of Justice (DOJ) to remove him from office.

McCabe told the shocking story to “60 Minutes” host Scott Pelley, who broke it down during an interview with “CBS This Morning.”

“There were meetings at the Justice Department at which it was discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the cabinet could be brought together to remove the president of the United States under the 25th Amendment.”

Pelley noted that McCabe was making a count of the cabinet members who would be on their side and those who would support the president with the ultimate goal of kicking him out of the Oval Office.

The president took to Twitter to express his outrage at McCabe and the FBI in general, calling the entire situation a politically motivated “disgrace.” He pointed to McCabe’s own scandals and claimed he was working on behalf of the Clinton campaign.

In many ways, the revelation about the attempted invocation of the 25th Amendment by McCabe vindicated many of President Trump’s claims about the DOJ actively working against him.

The president has been accusing the DOJ of being part of a “deep state” conspiracy to obstruct his presidency. The FBI was already entangled in an anti-Trump scandal after texts between former FBI employees Peter Strzok and Lisa Page revealed that they had a strong opposition to President Trump, including a plan to use an investigation as an “insurance policy” against Trump winning the election.

According to Pelley, McCabe claimed that the 25th Amendment talks occurred in the window of time between James Comey being fired and Robert Mueller being appointed as Special Counsel. Trump has been a vocal critic of Mueller’s investigation, often calling it a “witch hunt.”

It is unclear what fallout, if any, will come from McCabe’s revelations. He is no longer at the FBI and President Trump’s pick for FBI director, Christopher Wray, brought in a mostly new team, meaning many of the DOJ employees involved in the talks have since left the department, as Trump noted.
