It looks like the “Kid Rock for Senate” phenomenon is receiving support from a significant source.
The Senate Leadership Fund — a Super PAC backed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has expressed support for Kid Rock if he decides to challenge Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) for her seat. On Friday, Steven Law, the president of the Super PAC said, “We’d be actually very interested in his candidacy. I certainly wouldn’t count him out.”
A July poll conducted by RealClearPolitics showed that the rock star was behind Stabenow by 8 points. Steven Law said that this is “not a bad place to start.” The musician, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, has not officially announced that he will run for Senate, but there is much enthusiasm about his potential candidacy.
Of course, there are some who have doubts about Robert Ritchie. Many see him as a rock star with no experience with anything of substance outside of his music. This is understandable given the image he has cultivated over his musical career. Law acknowledged this and indicated that the “superficial” image of the musician should not repel potential voters. He said,
“The superficial sense of Kid Rock is that he’s an entertainer, that he’s kind of this wild redneck. But the truth of the matter is that he’s done a lot in his home state philanthropically, he’s a pretty smart guy, he thinks about policy, and he’s a shrewd businessman.”
Many are not aware of the fact that Ritchie has been involved in philanthropic efforts in the state of Michigan. He founded the Kid Rock foundation which is a non-profit organization that raises funds for regional charities.
These charities assist disadvantaged children and victims of war and natural disasters. His actions have shown that he is more than just an entertainer.
On his website, Ritchie states that in his conversations with the people of Michigan, he discovered that many individuals were not registered to vote. As a result, he is going to start an organization that encourages people to vote. He writes:
“During this time while exploring my candidacy for US Senate, I am creating a 501(c)(4) – a non-profit organization for the promotion of voter registration. Not only can I raise money for this critical cause, but I can help get people registered to vote at my shows.”
If he decides to run, Kid Rock will undoubtedly be an unconventional candidate for the Senate. The entirety of his political views is unclear, but it is evident that he will be a conservative alternative to Stabenow.
It might seem that a celebrity like Ritchie wouldn’t be taken seriously by the media and American voters — but the same could have been said for Donald Trump. If Ritchie can make a good showing in the election, it could be another indicator that the left is still in a weak position.
The fact that he is only 8 points behind in the most recent poll shows that many have grown weary of the left’s policies and rhetoric. Although Kid Rock has not officially announced his intention to run for office, the popularity of his potential campaign shows that the American voter is open to a different type of politician.
