Bernie Sanders Launches 2020 Bid with Claim It’s ‘Unacceptable’ That ‘Racist’ Trump Is President

The newest 2020 Democratic presidential contender, Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), couldn’t launch his run for president without bashing President Donald Trump along the way.

Appearing on “CBS This Morning” with co-host John Dickerson, Sanders launched his 2020 presidential bid and claimed, “We’re gonna win.”

Showing his apparent distaste for the current sitting president, the Independent senator declared it’s “un-American” for Trump to be president because he’s a “pathological liar” and it’s “absolutely imperative” Trump is defeated in 2020.

“It is absolutely imperative that Donald Trump be defeated, because I think it is unacceptable and un-American, to be frank with you, that we have a president who is a pathological liar,” Sanders said.

“We have a president who is a racist, who is a sexist, who is a xenophobe, who is doing what no president in our lifetimes has come close to do doing, and that is trying to divide us up,” he continued.

Sanders went on to say his 2020 campaign will continue to push his 2016 campaign ideas, such as raising the minimum wage and tuition-free public colleges.

“All of those ideas people were saying, ‘Oh Bernie, they’re so radical. They are extreme. The American people just won’t accept those ideas.’ Well, you know what’s happened in over three years? All of those ideas and many more are now part of the political mainstream.”

When asked about the former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz during the wide-ranging interview, the 77-year-old self-described Democratic socialist also took aim at Schultz for considering running as an Independent in the 2020 presidential election.

“Why is Howard Schultz on every television station in this country?” Sanders asked during the segment. “Why are you quoting Howard Schultz?”

He said the billionaire is “blackmailing the Democratic Party,” as IJR Blue reported.

The Vermont senator captured 23 state nominating contests and pushed the party to the left during his 2016 campaign, as IJR News reported.

“Together, you and I and our 2016 campaign began the political revolution. Now, it is time to complete that revolution and implement the vision that we fought for,” Sanders wrote in an email to his supporters.

Sanders is only the latest on the long list of Democratic candidates who launched presidential exploratory committees, including Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under former President Barack Obama Julián Castro.
