BREAKING: Billionaire Michael Bloomberg Is Launching a Coalition To Defy Trump and Uphold the Paris Agreement

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) has pledged $15 million from his philanthropy efforts to the United Nations to pay the United States’ contribution under the Paris climate accord.

In a press conference Friday, Bloomberg promised to coordinate contributions from the U.S. to the climate fund after President Trump announced that he would withdraw from the accord.

“The United States, through strong action from local leaders, businesses and investors, remains committed to fulfilling the Paris agreement,” said Bloomberg, who serves as the U.N. special envoy for cities and climate change.

“I look forward to working with [French President Emmanuel Macron] and [Paris] Mayor [Anne] Hidalgo to ensure that the Paris Agreement remains in full force.”

A Bloomberg spokesperson said the $15 million would cover the United States’ share of the U.N. climate body’s operating budget and it would come from Bloomberg Philanthropies and its partners, according to CNN.

Bloomberg said on CNN Friday that action on climate change now falls to local leaders, echoing calls from former President Barack Obama and others calling for local governments to pursue policies combatting climate change in the wake of the Trump administration’s decision.

“Local governments and businesses and individuals can do their part. If states can do something, that’s great. We need action,” Bloomberg said.

In addition to the financial pledge, the former New York City mayor announced that his philanthropy will meet the reporting requirements of the 2015 Paris deal that require nations to report their progress on reducing carbon emissions.

“What we want to do is to show concrete things that are going to reduce what we’ve been doing that’s hurting and changing our environment,” Bloomberg said.

Bloomberg joins many other private-sector figures who have denounced Trump’s decision to exit the Paris agreement. On Thursday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Disney CEO Bob Iger both condemned the decision, and pledged to quit Trumps economic advisory council.

“Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world,” Musk tweeted Thursday.

Global warming is a fact. Will /is it reversible? Probably not. The liberal idea of throwing money at it will not solve it either. While scientists are good at recognizing problems , they are often not 100 percent correct about the solutions. Only time will tell whether the earth will cool again in the future, or whether we will have to adjust.

Other factors are the primary reasons for climate change. America will lose jobs and have a lowered economy if we bow to the unreasonable restrictions this Paris Accord would put on our industries.

Bloomberg, like the other Liberals, does not realize that he is not the president. Obama. Is no longer in the position to harm and undermine the US, Hillary, (Thank God and Wikileaks), is not the president, Chuckie, Nancy and Elizabeth are not the president. Mr. Donald Trump is our president and he is doing a tremendous job in trying to minimize all of the negative that Barack did and is still trying to do. Where can I contribute to assist all of those liberals who were going to move. They need to get the hell out of the way and move ASAP.

Bloomberg can do whatever he wants to with his money but it doesn’t mean a thing. He doesn’t make the calls. He’ll never know where his money went. Simply ridiculous.

I agree with you Ted, he wasn’t any good in NY either, but he bought himself another term with his money too. He doesn’t give a shit about the American people only himself.

I don’t believe in climate change and this is why. I am the age that I remember when we got what we got, being there was no climate change other than what the good Lord gave us. Now I do agree that industries an big trucks all put out some major exhaust are all dangerous but when you go messing with the earth and mother nature then your messing with way higher power.

“Climate change is real.” That’s true, but our effect on it is minimal.

Thats his business, if he wants to throw his own money away more power to him, doesnt impress. if other citizens cant see the money grab in all this pity them theyre following like lambs. This was just more of Obama’s redistributing the wealth plan to socialism and bringing the US down. if they cant see that China has no obligation in the near future and and is prospering trade-wise and we were to send money to France (since when are they too poor to do their share) oh well, he’s welcome to send them all his money.

Mr. trump was a duly elected president. Bloomberg and Obama must respect the actions of their president. Stop undermining pres. Trump at every turn. As Obama said before elections have consequenvers. Losers!

I heard that it is bad for us to leave the Paris Accords. But I don’t understand what benefit we are getting from it. Aren’t we paying for most of it? Why pay for something we get no benefits from?

He needs to leave the US and go live in London. I’m so sick of liberal dumbasses like him trying to undermine our President. Have you even read the agreement and if you did read it I’d like to know if you comprehended what was written in it. Spend your money. Nobody cares but the people in this country don’t want it. At least the smart ones don’t.

If Bloomberg wants to give money to the Paris Accord that’s his business but he absolutely cannot give it in the name of the United States!! The United States has pulled out – end of story! IF we get back in, Congress should do their job, listen to the people and vote the way the people choose! If Bloomberg gives this money it should be understood that this is in no way coming from the USA!!!!!

The action of the SUN is what makes the change in weather for our planet, Remember when they where saying we are going to have Global freezing , that did not work out for them so they changed to what we have now , the same people different day. Our President did the right thing by pulling us out of the Paris agreement, it was never put before our leaders here in our country only one person made that choice, This is just people who are full of hate for Donald J Trump, let us give him our full support.

Well, I wonder what he has invested in that is going to turn this $15 mil into more and more and more. Doubt that he REALLY CARES ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT . . . JUST ANOTHER WAY TO ADD TO HIS RICHES. AND TO THUMB HIS NOSE AT TRUMP! Well, good luck on that Bloomburg. The majority of the American people are wising up and realizing that the Democrats have sold us down the river for years and the time to stop it is NOW!

It must be nice to have so much that you can throw away millions down a black hole. But, then again, this time it is his money, not ours, and he is free to do what he wants with it. Too bad he presents it as a defiance of our duly elected leadership rather than a bleeding heart, misguided quest to overturn nature. Makes one wonder what is really in it for him. You don’t amass that level of wealth by “investing” in scams.

I think this is a great idea. American taxpayers shouldn’t have to foot the bill on another U.seless N.ations program. If he wants to waste his money great there will be less for him to spend on politicians.

He is just another Liberal that just can’t live with the fact that they lost the election. As long as it’s his money that he is using to further his agenda to bully uninformed citizens into believing that climate change is real, let him waste it. I hope he sends China and India the amout that we were foolishly going to send.

Private money…… Go for it….although there are better issues to spend that money on right here in the good old USA! The poor, the infrastructure, the old, the sick, the homeless. But he’d rather discuss Trump than help him
