Last week, the state of California hired United States Attorney General Eric Holder to help them resist President-Elect Donald Trump. Judicial Watch responded to this on Monday by filing a request with the California State Legislature asking for more information about Holder’s hiring.
Daily Caller reported that Covington & Burling, which is Holder’s firm, was hired last week by California to serve as “outside counsel” to the legislature. In their filing, Judicial Watch targeted “all contracts between the California Legislature and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. or Covington and Burling,” in addition to “all communications between the California Legislature and former U. S. Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. or Covington and Burling about the Legislature’s retention of Holder and/or Covington and Burling.”
After the filing, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton spoke out to call “records request” an effort to “expose how California state legislators are wasting tax dollars to take care of another corrupt politician – Eric Holder – under the guise of resisting the rule of law on immigration and other matters.”
“His record at the Clinton and Obama Justice Departments demonstrates a willingness to bend the law in order to protect his political patrons,” he added.
Holder served as Obama’s attorney general from 2009-2015, and Judicial Watch pointed out that during that time, he was the first AG to ever be held in contempt of Congress on both civil and criminal grounds. This occurred when Holder refused to cooperate with probes into Operation Fast & Furious, Obama’s 2012 gun running program.
