All Browns Players and Coaches Stood for the National Anthem Because of This Man

Last week, 12 Cleveland Browns players chose to follow Colin Kaepernick’s example and kneel during the National Anthem in protest before their game against the New York Giants.

However, on Saturday before their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, every single player and coach stood in respect.

When play-by-play commentator Jim Donovan noticed that they were all standing, his partner, Doug Dieken, gave full credit to Jim Brown who had met with the players right before the game.

Jim Brown, Hall of Fame running back, reportedly told them, “Do not disrespect the flag, do not disrespect your country.”

Jim Brown, who is the most prominent Browns player in franchise history, made headlines just last week when he criticized Colin Kaepernick.

Brown stated:

“Colin has to make up his mind whether he’s truly an activist or rather he’s a football player. Football is commercial. You have owners. You have fans. And you want to honor that if you’re making that kind of money.

If you have a cause, I think you should organize it and present it in a manner where it’s not only you sitting on one knee, but a lot of people that are going to get behind each other and do something about it.

Let me ask you one question: Who is Colin calling on to follow what he’s talking about?

I would advise the young man, if you’re a football player, play football. If you’re going to be a real activist, use your money, use your notoriety.

You have to understand there’s intelligence that’s involved, OK? I can’t be two things at once that contradict each other. If I sign for money, then the people I sign with, they have rules and regulations.”

Brown finished the interview with a powerful statement:

“I’m going to give you the real deal: I’m an American. I don’t desecrate my flag and my national anthem. I’m not gonna do anything against the flag and national anthem.

I’m going to work within those situations. But this is my country, and I’ll work out the problems, but I’ll do it in an intelligent manner.”

Last week’s national anthem protest by the Browns players sparked both positive and negative reactions, some fans even refused to watch any games in the future if they continued to kneel.

It appears Brown took this situation into his own hands on Saturday and was able to talk some sense into the players.

Thank you Mr. Brown for your honest and respectful opinion. The manner in which you presented your case is the way ALL Americans need to present themselves to each other. With great respect, Karen.

YOU SEE WHAT MR. BROWN HAS TO REALIZE IS THAT HE AND KAEPENICK BOTH DO HAVE TWO DIFFERENCE OF OPINIONS . AND THIS KIND OF STUFF IS WHY OUR NATION IS DIVIDED . THAT’S WHY YOU HAVE A DEMORCRAT AND REPUBLICAN PARTY TO HELP RESERVE OUR DEMOCRECY .SO IT ALL COMES DOWN TO YOU BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN AND HE BELIEVES IN WHAT HE BELIEVES IN.NOW HOW YOU GONNA WORK THAT OUT I DON’T EVEN KNOW..

Jim Brown was one of the greatest football players ever. He was also an activist for the past 50 years. He is 100 per cent right. Don’ t disrespect the flag. You are trashing men and women in uniform serving our country in the military and in law enforcement. Many of these people all different races have given their lives so you can live in freedom. Every day we read is some military person make the ultimate sacrifice overseas in country we never heard of. Also a police officer is killed in the line of duty every 53 hours in America.

Mr. Brown is a man of true intelligence and inspiration. We don’t have enough of the Jim Brown’s in life. As one NFL fan who has been gravely disappointed in what’s been going on in this sport lately I truest want to thank you for your influence and words in this situation. So many of us agree wholeheartedly agree with you and have found it extremely frustrating to watch this unfold in front of us. Thank you again Mr. Brown you are truly one of the great football players of all time on the field and off!!

What I love most, is that this great man in his own right, famous, with beliefs, had to cut to the chase and state his truth. Apparently speaking “diplomatically”, didn’t work well for him. He tried the famous with a diplomatic style and knew. Passion for what he knows, Joe Brown.. Patronizing did not prevail in this video. Mr. Brown could not do it. Thank you.

Mr. Brown is a man we can respect.. Intelligent, strong and patriotic…
He understands that football is not just a sport, it is a job and that politics have no place in it…
And he disciplined those men, as well as the coaches, like a father would an unruly child…

That is something the coaches and owners of these teams have needed to do, but have failed to do and that is why they are loosing the fans.. We get enough politics in the news, we don’t want it on the playing field….

Bravo to Mr. Brown for injecting a note of reason into an otherwise juvenile and stupid “trend,” taken up by young fools who can’t seem to grasp just how truly privileged they are. It’s gentlemen like Jim Brown that made the game popular, and it’s up to the young, often overpaid, “professionals” to live up to their description. Bad enough that money has tainted the sport already; let’s not befoul it with politics.
