Commissioner Goodell: Trump Comments ‘Divisive,’ Show an ‘Unfortunate Lack of Respect’

The NFL has responded to President Trump’s comments, about NFL players who protest the anthem, and what he believes should happen to them. Goodell called Trump’s comments, “divisive,” and accused the president of a “failure to understand the overwhelming force for good,” that the NFL represents to its communities.

Goodell said, “The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we’ve experienced over the last month. Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.”

Interesting that Goodell accuses Trump of a “lack of respect.” Yet never made such strong comments over Colin Kaepernick wearing pig socks and a t-shirt celebrating a murderous dictator. One wonders how or why Goodell believes pig socks are a sign of the overwhelming good the league offers its communities.

Goodell’s statement, on balance, will probably not satisfy the Michael Bennett wing of the NFL player protest movement. However, by calling Trump’s comments divisive, in addition to saying they equal a lack of respect. The commissioner’s statement will no doubt be viewed as a win by anthem-protesting players, and, of course, a loss for the rest of us.

You are dividing us you coward. I would rather watch any other football player, kids, teens, high school, college and SCABS then watch those over paid babies disrespect the US and our veterans with that kneeling. Follow Jerry’s leadership.

Mr Goodell don’t allow your players to disrespect our flag and all it stands for. President Trump should get accolades for respecting and trying to teach the ingrates to give honor to those who fought and died for our freedoms. These players make a fortune for playing ball but start tantrums and protesting at our games about everything and nothing. Our fallen heros and those injured should get more respect. There’s a big difference in ducking bullets than there is in ducking footballs. Teach them to grow up. With their wealth they shoul pull money together and take care of those where the brave never made it home and those that returned home missing limbs or blind, etc, never got due credit..

So the NFL a private for profit business and its employees feel that they deserve more respect than the people that put their lives on the line and die protecting our freedoms. All of the players and owners are members of the one percent and appear to have lost touch with reality. Shame on you and your racist agenda

Have it your way Roger, I’m laying bets that the silent majority that elected Trump, and used to watch the NFL, will prevail in this little war of wills you so foolishly are engaging yourself in!

I do not respect those NFL players who disrespect my country. . I do not respect the team that plays them. I do not respect the NFL for allowing their traiterous actions. I do not respect the NFL commissioner who approves the disrespect of my country.. . It is NOT freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is clearly defined in the constitution. No, this is treason and nothing but treason. I do not respect treason in my country.

I’m confused, you want me to show respect for somebody because they are being disrespectful?

    Obviously, your priorities are messed-up.
You defend a group of imbeciles who disrespect the US flag but you attack the President of the US for defending the flag?
    You are a moron.

Can you “Protest” at your workplace? NO!
So why are these “S.O.B.’s” allowed to do so?

    If you DON’T STAND & RESPECT Our “Nation’s” Flag & Anthem….
then there’s NO PLACE for you in the “National” Football League… PERIOD!

THE NFL BETTER GET ON THE BALL WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE FLAG AND THE NATION’S ANTHEM. THEY CAN FOLD UP AND GO HOME IF THEY DON’T.
