Condoleezza Rice Has A Important Message For The Liberals

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is one of the most admirable people in America. She is well educated and accomplished woman. So, when she is talking people actually listen to what she has to say.

Yesterday she appeared on “Fox & Friends” to promote her new book, “Democracy: Stories from the Long Road to Freedom.” She is not ashamed of America’s past, the good and the bad, which means she is not ashamed of slavery and the Civil War.

So, when she came Co-host Brian Kilmeade had few strict questions for her:

“I want to talk about where your book starts, and that’s our Constitution. As an African-American woman, do you see yourself in this Constitution? Do you think that, when we look at nine of our first twelve presidents as slave owners, should we start taking their statues down and say, we’re embarrassed by you?”

“In a word, No,” Rice responded and continued,

“I am a firm believer in ‘keep your history before you. So, I don’t actually want to rename things that were named after slave owners. I want us to have to look at those names, and realize what they did, and be able to tell our kids what they did and for them to have a sense of their own history.”

Rice, who is a Senior Fellow at the Stanford School of Business, taught the liberals one significant history lesson, “When you start wiping out your history; sanitizing your history to make you feel better? It’s a bad thing.”

Rice then told a story from back in 2005 when she stood in the Ben Franklin Room of the State Department and was administered an oath of office by “a Jewish woman Supreme Court justice, that’s the story of America.”

“George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and other slave owners were people of their times. What we should celebrate is that from the Jeffersons and the Washingtons as slave owners…look at where we are now.”

Please share this post on Facebook if you agree with Condoleezza Rice.

    1. What do you mean Condi Rice is not ashamed of the civil war or slavery? Would a Jew be ashamed of the Holocaust or World War2 ? 2. Thomas Jefferson never took up arms against the Union or tried to destroy the nation. Trying to compare statues of him to a Confederate States of America~General in a public [tax~payer funded] park is by definition a FALSE EQUIVALENCY. 3. She is right that our history should not be ignored or obscured. But we should not pretend that there is no ugliness or failure. The Charlottesville statue of Robert E. Lee was erected in 1924, long after the civil war and at the height of the Klux Klux Klan revival. Many other statues of Confederate leaders were erected in the 1950’s and 1960’s as symbols to resistance to the civil rights movement. In Charlottesville the main public high schools were shut down to resist integration. I won’t bother to mention the statements of Secretary Rice in 2002 concerning Saddam Hussain’s “weapons of mass destruction.” Whether it was an error or a lie she has never apologized for her statement: perhaps she want that history to be ignored or obscured.

I like and respect condoleezza Rice. She speaks the truth, but, Donald Trump not the liberals, tried to put George Washington and Thomas Jefferson in the same group as the Traitor Robert E. Lee. Honoring the Confederacy if truly a revisionist history. This story is truly miss leading!!

This is a woman that along with Pres. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld drummed up a false narrative about weapons of mass destruction to invade a country just because Bush wanted to be a war time pres. like his daddy. W. Bush took the cowards way out and did the Air Guard in Alabama rather than go to Vietnam. He had no problem invading a country on a bold faced lie. What do you do after you found no WMD’s? Well we own it now and will for a long time to come. Bush and his tribe should be tried on war crimes and sentenced to life with the deaths and blood of millions on their hands. Rice is a truly despicable human being.

Don’t at all see the lesson she taught so called liberals, only your exaggeration of her great reference to the importance of history, even the unfortunate aspects of history. Maybe what you should have asked her was, ‘Should persons be honor in public squares of America who fought for the sustenance of white supremacy by maintaining blacks as slaves?’ You may have received a different answer.

Fine. Keep the statues on display but with a slight alteration. Take them off their pedestals and display them behind bars. Voila’, this meets all of Condi’s requirements and makes an updated symbolic statement that reflects the finality of the slave trade and the repercussions for “following orders” that to win the war ensures the enslavement and torture of human beings. Perhaps, these valiant heroes of yore should have fought to end slavery in their own confederate nation instead, THAT would be valiant, require the unparalleled bravery, and would ensure their iconic depiction for posterity.

Condi should do what Cheney and Rumsfield have done since lying to American people to illegally invade Iraq- be invisible. Can’t help laughing when she says; “What we should celebrate is that from the Jeffersons and the Washingtons as slave owners…look at where we are now.” LOL

Ms. Rice, I disagree with your opinion. History is to be learned in books, museums, visiting sites… erecting a statue or monuments to the defeated Confederacy is not teaching history. This sounds more like trophies for all first graders because they should all feel good…. that’s not reality. Monuments are not for losers, it is best to have American history classes and delve into all aspects of pre and post conflicts. Thank you for your opinion, I am an independent liberal who admires you.

THE PERTINENT EXCHANGE FROM THE ARTICLE: “I want to talk about where your book starts, and that’s our Constitution. As an African-American woman, do you see yourself in this Constitution? Do you think that, when we look at nine of our first twelve presidents as slave owners, should we start taking their statues down and say, we’re embarrassed by you?” “In a word, No,” Rice responded …

I like her too. She is as lovely and gracious in person as she appears on TV. And, I totally agree with her. We shouldn’t be talking about taking down statues of 9 of the first 12 Presidents of the US. Good thing is, no one is actually suggesting that. People ARE talking about taking down statues of men who entered into open revolt against the country the Founding Fathers created with the specific intent of ensuring their “right” to continue to own other human beings as property. But they didn’t ask her about that. So we don’t actually know her opinion of whether statues of the “heroes of the Confederacy” should be removed from public, government-owned, spaces. I suspect (but admit I don’t know for certain) that her response would be different.

But why were some statues put up? If to glorify that individual and the confederacy, then take it down. It is not educating anyone about high ideals and taking it down does not erase history. There is a place for statues like those, and it is not in every town center in the South.

On this issue she is so correct. Destroying Confederate statues and monuments won’t change our history. Such destruction is no different than the Taliban destroying Buddhist sculpture.

Those who won’t LEARN from their history are doomed to REPEAT it. Tearing down our past – good, bad and ugly – is refusing to learn from it and which GUARANTEES that we will repeat all of our worst mistakes. And between liberals and conservatives battling it out like this, will there be ANY statues left? Someone said – and I agree with them – that statues are not always MEANT to be about celebrating good memories (as with the 911 monument and keeping Nazi Concentration Camps up), but so that these horrific events would never be forgotten or repeated!

This is NOT about Liberal or Conservative. This is about Right and wrong. It is not about the fact that Washington or Jefferson owned slaves. Washington and Jefferson were NOT TRAITORS to their country. This not about trying to deflect with some ignorant talking point about “erasing history.” Don’t destroy those statues. Put them in Museums. In collections of HATE where all the NAZI, WHITE SUPREMACIST, KKK and other hate mongers can go and maybe be taught some truth about themselves and that these statues were NOT erected right after the Civil War (who erects statues of LOSERS in war?) but during Jim Crow as intimidation. US soldiers died fighting NAZIS and the confederacy (small “c” on purpose)…LOST.

There seems to be a vital part of the disagreement over our forefathers statues left out of the argument here.
The argument seems to follow this logic:
    1. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson owned slaves
    3. General Lee and Jackson fought for slavery, therefore Lee’s, Jackson, Washington, and Jefferson’s Statues should be torn down.
What is being left out of the discourse is:
    2. Washington and Jefferson owned slaves but they DID NOT fight to keep slavery intact.
Rice and FAUX News are leaving this vital talking point out of the argument. Misleading argument. I am a smart and educated liberal, thank you very much !

Ms. Rice is a political conservative. When she defends her party, she is going to take a stance that disagrees with liberals. That’s almost a given. And of course, she’s marketing a book.

Having said that, I have noticed that many liberals are all-too willing to tear down monuments in the name of anti-racism, but I haven’t seen much erected in their place. I am referring to actions and attitudes. How many liberals who were out supporting the removal of monuments would be willing to even post stories on social media about the contributions made by Black soldiers during the Civil War? Or post stories lauding Black American journalists, civil rights leaders, artists, scientists, and on and on?

According to my observations, there’s an imbalance there. I see a lot of tearing down, but little building up — little or no support of what people claim to support. Something’s missing….

  55. Jack Trades

    August 23, 2017 at 1:16 am

I also won’t disagree that there are intelligent conservatives. However, the author of the article, or the editor (or to whomever this comment needs directing) needs to work on their English syntax. Ms Rice is quite intelligent and highly respected, and at least deserves that.

    Thank you.

so true…every word she said…. My family survived the Holocaust and no one is demanding that the Death Camps be torn down…WHY? Because they are the reminder of the strength of the survivors. People go there as a pilgrimage and learning experience to show man’s inhumanity to man, and to NEVER let it happen again…. The same can be said for the statues in this country…… This is a teaching moment, not a time to pretend that the past never existed. How else will people be able to explain to their children the insanity of racism…. Tearing the statues down won’t change the minds of evil men, but it will instill power to the survivors of slavery.

Not sure this is an issue that fall along conservative-liberal lines. And comparing the remains of Nazi camps such as Auschwitz, Birkenau or Dachau to Confederate statures is a bad analogy. Those places were constructed by the Nazi regime to ethnically eliminate a race of people. The are left as reminders to that horror that we never forget. Statues of Confederate soldiers were constructed by white leaders of southern cities/states with $$ and power to honor those who served to defend their way of life/their state. They were not erected as history lessons so that we may never forget the horrors and evils of slavery. They honor service but also rebellion against the United States and defense of the institution of slavery. If you argue that these should stay in public places then you should also argue the statues, monuments and the like to honor the hundreds of thousands who died and suffered under our 240 year of slavery need to be erected alongside those standing statues. And removing such statues or moving them is NOT erasing history as Rice states by any means. History is recorded and remembered in many ways. If a statue of Robert E. Lee is OUR history, then tell me why you can’t find the same for Octavius Catto. You don’t see any and you never heard of him in any book, but he’s every bit as important to our civil rights history as MLK is. To add, many of these confederate statues were installed during the early part of the 20th century long after the civil war ended mostly as a reminder to african-americans of who was still in charge during the Jim Crow south. Sometimes recognizing that a statue or flag does NOT belong in a public place, but maybe better displayed in a museum IS accepting and remembering history more accurately
