Dem Sen Nelson on FL Shooting: ‘Enough Is Enough,’ We Need to Start Thinking About Background Checks

Wednesday on CNN’s “The Lead,” while commenting on the school shooting in Parkland, FL, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) said “enough is enough,” adding “people to start thinking about such things as background checks.”

Nelson said, “We ought to say, enough is enough. The question is, once you get into the investigation, how did the shooter obtain the weapon? Was it a high caliber weapon? Was it obtained lawfully? And if so, that ought to have people to start thinking about such things as background checks on the purchase of a gun, and the question of an assault rifle if in fact this is. I don’t know the details, but you said what would I say to those parents other than sharing in their grief. That’s what I would say.”

We already have background checks. Why not fix the mental health system?

I maintain it isn’t the guns! How do you explain Chicago with the most stringent gun control laws in the nation and look what you have there. I heard tonight, someone mentioned “Video Games”. Yes, they do nothing but desensitize people to the violence. Add to that HOLLYWOOD, whose violent movies and shows give me the shudders to even see the commercials, and they desensitize our youth (as well as adults) to the violence. Nobody mentions those two evil entities. Hollywood is quick, though, to condemn people who don’t agree with their perverted and sinful thinking!
But greater than this is the lack of true faith. In the 50’s when I grew up, EVERYONE went to church. They had NO STORES open because they had laws in effect that would not allow stores to open. As people wandered further from God and particularly the JUDIO-CHRISTIAN way of life, the country became more and more violent. It will continue thus until we, as a nation, turn back to God. The Bible says that it will get worse and worse, until the Lord’s return. Repent! Turn from your wicked ways and follow God. Read His word, The King James Bible, and find a church where Christ is honored and His Word taught. Maybe, just maybe, He might hold off on judgement.

Senator Nelson that statement is air head talking .If you are fallowing the laws we already have and are using them, you go in into a business to buy a gun they do a background check on you before they will sale you a gun . People Not fallowing any laws steal guns,so no background check for them . Have you noticed they don’t go where people with legal guns are .They are going to the gun free areas. So they are the only one with the gun. We need to do away with the gun free places. These gun-free places are causing more people to be shot .The States with more gun laws are also the states with High crime rate. You Need to be passing law to help the legal gun owners ,so they can help keep your states safe.

Amen, Alean Stoops. You hit the nail on the head! Arm teachers and station armed police officers in schools.
