Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, charmed the country with his underdog challenge for the Presidency. When he dropped out he became a key Trump ally. The two men grew close sticking up to liberals to make America great again.
Liberals almost love to bash Ben as much as they do Trump. They just can’t fathom a successful African American who not only repudiates the liberal economic platform as it pertains to minorities, Carson actually blamed (and he’s right) these liberal policies for the poverty and despair gripping our inner cities.
Everyone expected Carson to face fierce opposition in his confirmation fight. The liberals do not see Ben as qualified to run HUD, a key position in the war on poverty.
But that is what makes him the perfect choice – he has the experience and life knowledge without the bureaucracy or being beholden to an ideology that protects profit centers rather than protects people.
So, soft-spoken Ben won’t sing his praises but we will. It is with great pride we help ben announce that he has beat back the liberal opposition and has been confirmed as Housing Secretary.
And shockingly, Six Democrats and one independent joined 51 Republicans to confirm Carson. After his gripping testimony and Ben’s total devotion to the cause I’m surprised more democrats didn’t vote for him, but getting any just shows you how respected and admired Ben Carson is.
Carson, 65, will lead an agency with 8,300 employees and a budget of about $47 billion. The department provides billions of dollars in housing assistance to low-income people through vouchers and public housing programs. It also enforces fair housing laws and offers mortgage insurance to poorer Americans through the Federal Housing Administration, part of HUD.
Trump lauded Carson calling him a “totally brilliant neurosurgeon” who has saved many lives.
We’re going to do great things in our African-American communities,” Trump said,
“Ben is going to work with me very, very closely. And HUD has a meaning far beyond housing. If properly done, it’s a meaning that’s as big as anything there is, and Ben will be able to find that true meaning and the true meaning of HUD as its secretary,” Trump said.
Carson has not shared specific plans publicly for the department under his leadership.
At his confirmation hearing, he told lawmakers that he envisioned forging a more “holistic approach” to helping people and developing “the whole person.” He didn’t offer many details.
During confirmation questioning, Carson said HUD’s housing assistance program is “essential” to millions of Americans. But added, “We don’t want it to be a way of life. … We want it to be a Band-Aid and a springboard to move forward.”
That is the exact thing we need. We are a generous people, but our generosity has been abused not just by welfare cheats, but mainly by a bureaucracy that has become a source of jobs for thousands. No liberals will shake up this, “profit center” no matter the cost to the people.
Ben Carson will. And the people who rely on HUD will be some much better off.
