‘Hallelujah’: TV Personality Mario Lopez Gets Baptized in the Same River as Jesus

Well-known TV personality Mario Lopez was touring Israel’s holy sites when he decided to get baptized in the Jordan River.

Earlier this week, the father of two stopped by the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus walked on water, and visited the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered his “Sermon on the Mount,” found in Matthew 3 and 5, respectively.

Then on Thursday afternoon, the “Extra” host was baptized in the same place John the Baptist baptized Jesus, in the Jordan River.

“We are at the Jordan River where John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ. I’m about to get baptized,” Lopez said. “It’s a beautiful day. There’s a really cool Catholic priest that’s gonna do me the honors.”

Once the 44-year-old host was in the water, the priest asked, “Do you believe in Jesus Christ? … Do you intend to serve him all your life?”

Lopez answered, “Yes,” to both questions and the crowd of Romanian tourists gathered around the river bank began singing “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.”

“Beautiful people here. This is awesome,” Lopez exclaimed. “Wow. I just got baptized in the Jordan River. Hallelujah.”

Lopez has been taking his faith more seriously in recent years. In 2015, he told Fox News he’s “tried to build a more spiritual muscle in a business that is very unpredictable.”

“It’s nice to have something that is consistent in our life — family and faith is that for me,” he said.
