Melania Trump Addresses #MeToo Movement: I Stand With Women, But You Need to ‘Show the Evidence’

First lady Melania Trump said in an exclusive interview that she stands with women and the #MeToo movement, but that there needs to be “really hard evidence” if someone accuses another person of sexual assault.

“I support the women,” Trump told ABC News during her first solo trip to Africa. “They need to be heard. We need to support them. And also men, not just women.”

“We need to have really hard evidence that if you’re accused of something, show the evidence,” Trump continued.

The comments made by Trump come just after Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, as women came out and accused him of sexual misconduct back in the early 1980’s causing a battle betweens hundreds of protesters.

“You cannot just say to somebody you know, ‘I was sexually assaulted,’ or ‘You did that to me,’ because sometimes the media goes too far,” Trump said. “And the way they portray some stories, it’s not correct. It’s not right.”

During her trip to four countries in Africa, Trump was able to promote her “Be Best” campaign, which kicked off earlier this year, with a goal to focus on child welfare.

Trump said during the interview that the most surprising thing as first lady was the lack of partnership in her campaign by some organizations because they didn’t like the president.

“It’s sad to see that organizations and foundations I want to partner with choose not to because of the administration,” Trump said. “I feel they are choosing the politics over helping others.”
