During an interview with MSNBC, Michael Avenatti, famous for representing porn star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against President Donald Trump, said top leadership within the Democratic National Committee have encouraged him to run for president in 2020.
“Well, I’ve been traveling around the country raising money for Democrats, and I’ve received an incredible response every state that I’ve gone to,” Avenatti said. “I think I’ve surprised a lot of people.”
The combative lawyer said he has received a lot of support to run, not just from people in states he’s visited but also from party leadership.
“I’ve received a lot of encouragement from the Democratic National Committee and senior leadership within the committee, frankly, to run,” he explained.
To set himself apart from the numerous expected Democratic challengers, Avenatti said it does not matter how much political experience someone has; if they can’t beat Trump, they “don’t have any business” running against him.

Below is an updated summary of where I stand on over 20 key issues. This is not an exhaustive list; more positions and details will follow. I am pleased to report that I still have not had to take a poll or hire a political consultant to tell me what to say or what to believe. pic.twitter.com/51F9zF88OG

“I support sensible gun control, including background checks and bans on assault weapons and bump stocks,” he stated on the issue of gun control. “I believe gun manufacturers should be held to the same civil liability standards as other product manufacturers in the United States.”
