Obama About DACA In 2012: “This Is A Temporary Stop-Gap Measure”

When the DACA program started, its creator, Barack Obama, pointed out it was just a short-term solution to a much bigger problem.

“In the next few months, eligible individuals who do not present a risk to national security or public safety will be able to request temporary relief from deportation proceedings and apply for work authorization,” Obama said when announcing DACA. “Let’s be clear: this is not amnesty, this is not immunity, this is not a path to citizenship, this is not a permanent fix.”

And now after Trump decided to end his short-term solution, Obama took it on Facebook and called his decision “cruel.”

Commentator Robert Laurie stated that Obama’s anger “is patently, provably, phony.”

“This is a temporary stop-gap measure that lets us focus our resources wisely while giving a degree of relief and hope to talented, driven, and patriotic young people,” Obama said.

In 2014 the Washington Post wrote an article pointing out the dangers of Obama decisions to write orders and not pass laws.

“Neither program has backing from Congress, and that limits their scope and durability. The next president could reverse either one with the stroke of a pen,” the article read.

Obama acknowledged in 2014 that he was choosing the second-best way to solving the issue.

“I continue to believe that the best way to solve this problem is by working together to pass that kind of common sense law,” Obama stated. “But until that happens, there are actions I have the legal authority to take as President – the same kinds of actions taken by Democratic and Republican presidents before me – that will help make our immigration system more fair and more just.”

He also said Congress should do all the heavy work.

” … to those members of Congress who question my authority to make our immigration system work better, or question the wisdom of me acting where Congress has failed, I have one answer: Pass a bill,” he said.

Obama attacking Trump on his decision also represent a change from some comments he made in 2005 when he was the senator representing Illinois.

“We all agree on the need to better secure the border and to punish employers who choose to hire illegal immigrants. You know, we’re a generous and welcoming people here in the United States, but those who’ve entered the county and those who employ them disrespect the rule of law and they are showing disregard for those who are following the law. We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States, undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently diligently and lawfully to become immigrants in this country,” Obama said.

My father has been in this country for 75 years from Italy. My father lost his biological father at the age of 1. His mother remarried an american and set sa il on a boat to New York when he was 2. Her Husband was a blessing to my father. My father has paid his taxes and social security and has worked hard for 60+ years only to find out he wasn’t a citizen of this country. OUR GOVERNMENT stopped my father from receiving Social Security for 8 years until he got his citizenship which he made the news for doing so. If my father can go without any source of income in his old age till he got his citizenship. So can these young dreamers! I WISH no one any harm or punishment. But go do it the right way. It’s only fair! I don’t think we should stop the processes any longer. The parents were looking for a better future for themselves and the children. But we should not allow them to take the easy/shortcut way to be apart of this great country. Do it the the way the law has set it up from the beginning. We have given them a chance and the time they needed to be legal citizens of this great country. I want anyone that is willing to come here to Respect the process.
