Florida native Kyle Kashuv, the pro-gun Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor, has been busy using his large platform to help candidates on the campaign trail. He is already supporting Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) for Florida governor.
During a rally on Wednesday, Kashuv explained why he is also supporting Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).
“Through all my interactions, there was a single person who stood out among the rest,” Kashuv said. “He is highly intelligent, a firm conservative, and an exceptional man. I have never, never, seen anyone fight so hard for our rights.”
“It is no secret that our Second Amendment rights are at risk, but thanks to champions like Congressman Matt Gaetz, we know that they are safe,” he continued.
Kashuv told IJR the issue of school safety is ongoing, especially since he and the rest of his classmates will start school again in two weeks.
“I understand [with] people wanting to stump for gun control. I really do,” he said. “But it shouldn’t come at the expense of school safety. I really feel as if people are holding safety hostage to push for a lager political gain. It makes me sick.”
Gaetz had voted in support of H.R. 4909, also known as the STOP School Violence Act, in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Parkland.
“People like Congressman Matt Gaetz have shown me that politics doesn’t always need to be political. He’s always there for me when I have questions and allows me to spitball ideas off of him on the regular,” Kashuv further told IJR.
