Earlier this week, Parkland survivor David Hogg led a charge to boycott the Florida-based supermarket Publix because it backed a gubernatorial candidate, Adam Putnam, whom Hogg said was an “NRA sellout.”
His efforts seemed to work, as people participated in a “die-in” in stores:

Publix seemed to cave, releasing a statement saying it would suspend its corporate-funded political contributions.
“We regret that our contributions have led to a divide in our community,” the store said. “We did not intend to put our associates and the customers they serve in the middle of a political debate.”
But its decision may have earned it yet another boycott from disgruntled customers:

Publix needs to reverse its decision. I will never shop at a @Publix again. I will urge no conservative or republican to ever shop there again. A company that bows to that fascism is no friend of our Republic. Enough is enough.

@Publix Cowards publix! Stand up for ur beliefs, support gubernatorial candidate of ur choice despite bullying! I love my publix in Dunedin but won’t be patronizing in the foreseeable future, nor will my entire family of republicans! 😡🇺🇸

This NRA member will not support @Publix stores.

Some lamented how Publix caved to the protests:
This isn’t activism. This is a public disturbance. Now I see why the #Parkland community scorned @davidhogg111’s arrogant political theater. What if a customer tripped over one of them? And you caved into this ridiculousness, @Publix?
I’m glad your stores aren’t in my city. https://t.co/IMBok9ABC9

I can’t understand why Publix would cave to such misguided and unfair complaints. The protests against Publix are ridiculous — who the heck wants people laying down in a supermarket? Shopping won’t be a pleasure if left-wing agitators get their way. I’ll always stand up for #2A!
