Rep. Omar Calls for Defunding DHS — Right After She Was ‘Complaining’ TSA Hadn’t Received Back Pay

Freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is one of several Democrats calling for the defunding of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), but she’s being called out for her inconsistency prior about back pay for an organization that’s under DHS.

In a tweet on Friday, the newly sworn-in representative took a swipe at President Donald Trump, as she labeled him “Individual 1” while calling for her fellow Democrats to “stand firm” and not offer one dollar for DHS.

“When Democrats stood our ground last month, we proved that Individual 1 does not have the public support to ram his hateful wall through Congress,” Omar wrote. “Let’s stand firm: #Not1Dollar for DHS.”

As Fox News anchor Rob Schmitt pointed out, Omar’s call to defund DHS came only hours after she said it was an “outrage” that Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers in Minnesota “haven’t received backpay after the shutdown.” TSA workers were deemed “essential” and had to work but were not paid during the longest government shutdown in history.

TSA is under DHS, so calling for the end of DHS funding would end TSA’s funding, as well as others such as the U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Secret Service, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Schmitt called out the “angry and complaining” Omar, who is a proud Somali refugee.

As IJR Red reported, Omar, along with fellow freshman Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), held a press conference on Thursday to call for ICE to be defunded.

During her speech, Omar claimed immigrants are “detained and tortured” when they enter the U.S.

“I remember what [leaving for America] felt like, but the difference between what is happening to some of these little girls and me is that I didn’t have a cage waiting for me,” she said. “[…] And in this country, in the United States, people are not welcomed [with open arms]. They are separated and processed, they are detained and tortured, and we can’t continue to allow that to happen.”

Despite Democratic freshmen slamming ICE, Trump highlighted the importance of the agency during his recent State of the Union address.

“We will always support the brave men and women of law enforcement, and I pledge to you tonight that I will never abolish our heroes from ICE,” he said. “Thank you.”

This is America…she should take that crap off her head if she is going to be an American Congress person. How dare she be so rude to the Congressman saying anything he says will be a lie, however,
she is the gift that keeps on giving to the Republicans.
