‘Roseanne’ Co-Star Weighs in on ABC’s Decision to Cancel the Hit Television Show After Controversial Remarks

Despite the fact that she lost her job, “Roseanne” co-star Sara Gilbert said she stood behind ABC’s decision to cancel the program following Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.

Gilbert’s remarks were her first public endorsement of the network’s decision. But soon after Barr suggested Jarrett resembled a character from “Planet of the Apes,” she issued a fierce denunciation:

While appearing on CBS’ “The Talk” on Monday, Gilbert reiterated that she was proud of the show but noted how tough the incident had been on her.

“This has been a very difficult week. A lot of people have been hurt by this,” she said.

Watch Gilbert make those remarks below:

She added that the show had always been about “diversity, love, and inclusion.”

“It’s sad to see it end in this way,” she said.

Actor Michael Fishman, whose character had a daughter on the show who was African-American, similarly said that his character “was designed to represent the inclusive nature of [his] views.”

“Our cast, crew, writers, and production staff strived for inclusiveness, with numerous storylines designed to reflect inclusiveness,” he said in a statement condemning Barr’s comments:

End of the show statement

Barr, who said she thought Jarrett was white, responded by taking credit for the show’s focus on inclusivity:

“[I] created the platform for that inclusivity and you know it,” she told Fishman.

Both Barr and Gilbert lamented the impact her words had on the show’s cast and crew.

“I’m sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process. However, I do stand behind the decision that ABC made,” Gilbert added.

Gilbert’s remarks came amid news that she actively pitched a spinoff for her character and that ABC executives planned to meet about potential opportunities.

She is a cross between the Muslim Brotherhood and The Planet of the Apes VJ. Where in that statement did she say all blacks are apes? That black woman on the show saying what she did on behalf of blacks is racist for sure. First of all, Roseanne was talking about one woman and second is that black woman saying you can not tell the difference from one black to another? Because Roseanne was talking about a movie called “Planet of the Apes”. The characters in that movie are fictional (NOT REAL). Next, of all, a comedian called our President an Orange Orangutan and he was sued. When it went to court the case was dismissed because the Judge said it was a joke. If that was a joke then why was Roseanne’s statement not a joke? There are other cases where comedians called Trump all kinds of names and they were racist as well. By the way, calling a white and ape is racist because Evolution says all humans are apes. All who do not believe in Evolution find that offensive and Racist. Trump is a Christian and most Christians do not believe in Evolution. But like I said a judge said it was a joke. Now there is the double standard.
