School Board Chair Calls Trump ‘Bonafide Idiot,’ Tells Students They Don’t Have to Stand for Pledge

A Democratic school board chairman in Virginia is drawing attention after he called Republican President Donald Trump a “bonafide [sic] idiot” and made it clear that students and employees are free to not stand for the national anthem and Pledge of Allegiance.

Ryan Sawyers of the Prince William County School Board added in his Monday tweet that “there will be no action taken against you for choosing to not stand or participate” and that “you are safe in PWCS.”

Sawyers was reacting to a tweet from Trump criticizing Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch who didn’t stand for the national anthem over the weekend in a game played in Mexico City — but got on his feet for the Mexican anthem.

Asked why he put out his tweet, Sawyers told WTTG-TV, “I didn’t put it out. I certainly maybe have raised an elevation with my tweet, which I certainly didn’t expect to get the attention that it did.”

It should be noted that Sawyers is running for U.S. Congress in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, the station said, adding that the primary election is June 12.

“But I find no shame in making sure students and families know what their rights are in the school system,” he said to WTTG.

“This isn’t Ryan Sawyers’ opinion on governance here,” he noted to the station. “This is something that is established in the First Amendment to the Constitution, something that I take a lot of pride in.”

Sawyers also tweeted a 2003 county regulation saying that standing for the Pledge of Allegiance “is not compulsory and shall be provided through school-wide participation using the intercom or through individual teachers who may desire to lead their class in the pledge,” WTTG reported.

“Students, football players, everyone has a right to certainly a peaceful demonstration of their First Amendment rights, and I think it is important that our employees and students know that.”

Reactions to Sawyer’s tweet seemed decidedly against it:

This writers’ perspective

So, a Democratic school board chairman running for U.S. Congress posts a tweet ripping Trump and backing existing policy allowing anthem and pledge protests — and then says he didn’t expect his words to get the attention they did?

Sounds about right. Surely Sawyer has no interest in getting his name out there as the 2018 election comes around the bend. He’s merely fighting for his students and staffers. Yup.

afe? Are you kidding me? We are scared to death every day we have to send our children to school. American children are losing all their rights in school for the lefts agenda to make everyone welcome, except America and Christian children. Forcing Islam on them, BLM taking control of their classrooms, antifa attacking everyone, common core dumbing them down, forcing them to pray to someone else’s god in school, honoring black culture for an entire month making all children believe their parents are racist, calling a sitting president an idiot, changing history to meet their agenda, telling little girls they have to share bathrooms with little boys because parents are forcing their own sexuality on their kids, demanding white people pay black people for suffering they never experienced by people who never were slave owners and calling these children’s parents white supremacists, forcing children to believe in a teachers personal beliefs and getting a failing grade if they don’t, etc. etc. etc. This man needs to be fired, the entire bored of education needs to be fired and replaced with people who can educate our children without forcing this liberal, politically correct mentality on our very impressionable children. My grand-kids are home schooled due to the hate and ignorance coming from their schools. But home schooling is not available to everyone and is in most cases far to expensive and not even local. This man is a typical liberal a**hat telling the children who are here because of their parents that they do not EVER have to honor this country that opened our doors to them and gave them all the rights real citizens of this country have. They will grow up to go to college for free and join antifa and attack those kids they went to school with.

I cannot believe what people are doing in our schools and this so called man needs to be fired. Make sure he does not get elected to our congress or senate and that he is never a representative for his stat.I am so tired of the way the left treats our President.

First, I’ll bet that this man never served his country! Second, there’s a Nazi quote from the second World War, “The youth belongs to us and we will yield them to no one.”
Of course no one is forced to stand for the pledge or the anthem, you do it because you love your country!
