Sen. Marco Rubio Counters Trump, Opposes Arming Teachers for School Safety

Hours after President Donald Trump announced his push to arm teachers for self-defense, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) told a CNN audience he does not support letting teachers carry guns.

Rubio said plainly, “I don’t support it.”

He suggested armed teachers could end up being shot by a SWAT team if that team entered the building and saw the teacher standing with a gun in his or her hand. He said, “The SWAT team doesn’t know who is who” so they may shoot the teacher, leading to an “additional tragedy that was unnecessary.”

Lost in Rubio’s scenario are two things: 1. Schools could keep specific lists of which teachers were armed – lists responding law enforcement could access so they would know who should have a gun. 2. He overlooked the agonizingly long minutes which pass between he time the attack starts and the time SWAT enters the building. At Sandy Hook the attacker had over nine minutes without armed resistance.

What are unarmed teachers to do for nine minutes?

Is it not safe to say that every death that occurs during that time is “unnecessary”?

President Trump observed that the status quo, wherein teachers are denied arms, is not working. CNN quoted him saying, “Gun-free zone to a maniac—because they’re all cowards—a gun-free zone is ‘let’s go in and let’s attack because bullets aren’t coming back at us.’”

Trump stressed that incidents like the February 14 attack could be cut short or prevented altogether if teachers were armed. He said, “If you had a teacher who was adept with the firearm, they could end the attack very quickly.”

NO surprise there rubio is a corrupt career politician. He’s a sellout scumbag he’s he’s one of the one’s wants to do away with our constitution. Some one MUST show ALL of he politicians the Militia act. of 1903. The Militia act. of 1903 declared ALL gun control laws ILLEGAL and Unconstitutional.! Every politician who has voted for gun control law’s has committed a high crime.! The 2nd. amendment is NOT negotiable.! NONE of the amendments are.! 54 years in this world and I have seen my constitutional RIGHT’s violated time after time. And while er are at it 16 is too young to vote, They have life experience. At 18 if you can enlist in the military and be trained how to use a firearm to kill the enemy in wars those corrupt politicians get America into then you are old enough to buy a fire arm.! LEAVE MY RIGHT’S ALONE.!!!!!!!!

This is the mentality of politicians. There are teachers who have served in the military, grew up with guns, enjoy target practice…they could sign up, become trained in school incident protocol, and SWAT members could shout out ‘guns down’ as they enter and secure the area. Armed teachers might have the job done by the time they got there. We also want to look at mental health…and the abundance of psychotropic medications kids are being prescribed. Side effects of these drugs can make people homicidal annd/or suicidal. The FBI needs to step it up with their protocols too. I don’t think kids should be able to buy guns until they are 21 without their parents co-signing for them. Universal background checks are needed too. COMMON SENSE and some action where it makes sense is all important in the conversation. A return to spiritual knowledge is also quite helpful. I can’t wait for school vouchers so parents can choose what kind of school they want for their children’s safety and to thrive academically. These ALL OR NOTHING approaches for party politic has FAILED. Let’s do something common sense all around.
