After his treatment for brain cancer, Senator John McCain is planning to implement new immigration reform.
Last week he voted against the Obamacare repeal and betrayed every Republican and especially the president. And now he wants to implement a transformed immigration reform
A several of senators were members of “Gang of Eight” group in 2013 including McCain. They wanted to pass an immigration legislation in the Senate which would have provided a way for illegal immigrants to become citizens in U.S., and also would have improved border security measures.
14 Republicans supported the legislation which passed the Senate with 68-32 votes but was rejected by the House.
McCain stated that before he left Washington D.C., he talked with Chuck Schumer about reintroducing the legislation, Thursday.
“Immigration reform is one of the issues I’d like to see resolved,” McCain stated in an interview with The Arizona Republic. “I’ve got to talk to him about when would be the best time. I think there are all kinds of deals to be made out there. I really do.”
“Basically it’s what we passed last time, brought up to date with the new challenges, like opioids,” He stated.
“It’s still there. We got 68 votes, I think, the last time. I don’t think that’s going to be any different next time,” McCain continued.
McCain presented his plans after President Trump presented his legislation that included an English-language proficiency requirement and poofs of earnings and professional skills which the U.S. can profit from.
Sens. Tom Cotton, and David Perdue supported the legislation, but McCain thought that this wasn’t the best approach to the matter.
“I think you have to consider that we do want high-tech people, but we also need low-skilled people who will do work that Americans won’t do,” McCain stated. “I wouldn’t do it. Even in my misspent youth, I wouldn’t do it.”
“If we could pass it through the House and Senate the way we passed it through the Senate last time, it’s like this Russia [sanctions] bill, it doesn’t matter,” McCain stated. “Do you think [Trump] signed it because he liked it?”
McCain is getting a lot of disapproval for his immigration reform. Laura Ingraham even wrote on Twitter to express her concerns.
