The United Nations has made no secret of the fact that it is firmly against President Donald Trump. This has now come back to bite them in a big way…
The Hill reported that Trump’s White House has instructed the State Department to cut more than 50 percent of U.S. funding to United Nations programs. This comes as the White House is scheduled to release its 2018 topline budget proposal, which will likely include a 37 percent cut to the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development budgets.
The U.S. spends around $10 billion on the U.N. per year, and the cuts will likely affect peacekeeping, the U.N. development program and UNICEF the most. Other programs like the World Food Programme and U.N. refugee operations will likely be impacted as well.
Richard Gowan, a U.N. expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations, whined that there will be “chaos” if these rumors are true.
“[It would] leave a gaping hole that other big donors would struggle to fill,” he said, adding that the U.S. provided $1.5 billion of the U.N. refugee agency’s $4 billion budget last year. “Multiply that across other humanitarian agencies like the World Food Programme and you are basically talking about the breakdown of the international humanitarian system as we know it.”
Liberals are of course furious about this, but we’re glad Trump is making budget cuts to the U.N. so that he can use that money for things such as our military. SHARE this story is you support this!
