Two spoiled teenage football players from Texas decided to kneel during the national anthem before their game Friday. But the protests didn’t last long as the coach took something from them immediately.
Larry McCullough and Cedric Ingram-Lewis quickly learned that Texans don’t like it when some spoiled high school football players disrespect the flag and the country. Friday night they knelt during the national anthem.
Ingram-Lewis, a sophomore, said that the subject of the protest was brought up in the locker room and his cousin McCullough, a senior, also revealed he will kneel on social media. Anyhow, in case the players think that the coach will tolerate disrespecting the anthem, coach Ronnie Mitchem openly told them that he doesn’t allow kneeling.
Mitchem is a pastor and ex-Marine who started to train football players six years ago at Victory & Praise Christian Academy in Crosby, Texas. Seeing how he is a former veteran, he was clear that he doesn’t allow his players to protest the National Anthem. “He told us that disrespect will not be tolerated,” said Ingram-Lewis after kneeling on Friday. “He told us to take off our uniform and leave it there.”
“That was my point of view,” Mitchem said. “Like I said, I’m a former Marine. That just doesn’t fly and they knew that. I don’t have any problem with those young men. We’ve had a good relationship. They chose to do that and they had to pay for the consequences.”
Rhonda Brady, the mother of one of the players who was kicked off the team, said the coach was a man with no integrity.” She said, “Actions speak louder than words. So, for him to do what he did, that really spoke volumes, and I don’t want my kids or my nephew to be around a man with no integrity.”
“I’m definitely going to have a conversation because I don’t like the way that that was handled,” Brady added. “But I don’t want them back on the team. A man with integrity and morals and ethics and who truly lives by that wouldn’t have done anything like that.”
Brady’s comments say a lot about her son’s behavior. Parents who attack a veteran who has contributed to the safety of the country they are living in are the ones to blame for their kids’ disgraceful behavior. If Brady doesn’t teach her kids to respect others is more worrisome than the fact that her son was kicked off the football team.
