WATCH: CNN Reporter Just Got A BRUTAL SURPRISE From Trump During Press Conference

President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday blasted the news media for reporting “fake news” and during his press conference denounced CNN by telling a reporter from the network, “You are fake news.”

Trump, who battled the mainstream media throughout the presidential campaign, was particularly incensed over reports that circulated Tuesday night alleging Trump engaged in salacious personal conduct during a trip to Moscow and that he had extensive political connections in the Russian government.

“Some of the media outlets I deal with are fake news. … They’re very, very dishonest people,” Trump said. “The advantage I have is that I can speak back.”

Trump called BuzzFeed, the website that first published unsubstantiated allegations it admitted might not be true, “a failing pile of garbage.”

“It’s a disgrace what took place, and I think they ought to apologize to start with,” he said, later adding, “I think they are going to suffer the consequences.”

Trump’s anger grew after CNN reporter Jim Acosta spoke up.

“Since you are attacking us, can you give us a question?” Acosta said.

“Not you,” Trump said. “Your organization is terrible!”

“You are attacking our news organization, can you give us a chance to ask a question, sir?” Acosta then said.

“Don’t be rude,” Trump replied.

Then he let go.

“I’m not going to give you a question,” Trump responded. “I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news!”

Trump’s comment was greeted by applause from those with him on stage as Acosta scolded, “Now, Mr. President-elect, that’s not appropriate!”

Earlier in the event, Trump had discussed the allegations of misconduct.

“It’s all fake news. Its phony stuff. It didn’t happen,” Trump said. “It was gotten by opponents of ours. It was a group of opponents that got together. Sick people and they got together and put that crap together.”

He said he would never be involved in hotel room shenanigans because he knows about “cameras in the strangest places” in hotel rooms.

“You can’t see them and you won’t know,” he said. “You better be careful or you will be watching yourself on nightly television.”

Trump’s press event began with administration officials venting their feelings about the widespread attention given to reports that even the original source said might not be true.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence called it “false and unsubstantiated” reporting that “can only be attributed to media bias and an attempt to demean the president-elect and our incoming administration.”

Incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer chided BuzzFeed and CNN for what he called a “sad and pathetic” effort to get clicks on their websites.
