WATCH: Reporter Asks Trump About Him Angering US Allies — Trump Drops the Hammer in Response

During a press conference on Saturday, President Donald Trump defended his actions amid concern that he angered United States allies at the G-7 summit.

“As you were heading into these G-7 talks, there was a sense that America’s closest allies were frustrated with you and angry with you and that you were angry with them,” a CNN reporter said.

After the reporter asked if the U.S.’s alliance system was “shifting” under Trump, the president asked, “Who are you with, out of curiosity?”

When the reporter said “CNN,” Trump laid into the network:

“I figured. Fake news CNN. The worst. I could tell by the — I had no idea you were CNN. After the question, I was just curious as to who you were with. You’re with CNN.”

The president went on to defend his relationships with Germany, France, and Canada.

“I would say that the level of relationship is a 10. We have a great relationship,” he said.

Instead, he blamed previous politicians for creating tension around trade, something he was very vocal about earlier in the week:

Trump said Saturday that although previous leaders were responsible for the trade situation, he would blame his allies if they didn’t “act smart”:

“We have a very good relationship. And I don’t blame these people. But I will blame them if they don’t act smart and do what they have to do because they have no choice. I’ll be honest with you. They have no choice. They’re either going to make the trades fair, because our farmers have been hurt. […] We are going to fix that situation, and if it’s not fixed, we’re not going to deal with these countries.”

After noting that his relationship was “great” with allies, Trump told the reporter, “You can tell that to your fake friends at CNN.”

Trump has long criticized CNN, but his latest comment came amid seemingly heightened tension between the network and the White House.

Earlier this week, for example, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shut down CNN reporter Jim Acosta as he tried to continue asking questions despite her trying to move to a different reporter.

“Not today, Jim!” she said.

Last week, Trump also blasted the network for its low ratings:
