Acosta Shows Up at ‘Tranquil’ Border Wall to Mock Trump — Republicans Thank Him for Proving Trump’s Point

CNN’s Jim Acosta caught the internet’s attention after he tried — and failed — to mock President Donald Trump’s call for a border wall.
During his national broadcast, Trump came just shy of declaring a national emergency at the border despite his feelings that a wall could help Border Patrol address the humanitarian crises occurring there.
As IJR Blue reported, Acosta didn’t like the president’s speech and thought that it was “hazardous to the truth.”
In an attempt to prove to Trump that there isn’t a crisis at the border, Acosta filmed himself and described how safe he felt.
Watch the video below:
I found some steel slats down on the border. But I don’t see anything resembling a national emergency situation.. at least not in the McAllen TX area of the border where Trump will be today. pic.twitter.com/KRoLdszLUu

“Here are some of the steel slats that the president’s been talking about, right here. As you can see, yes, you can see through these slats to the other side of the U.S.-Mexico border. But as we’re walking along here, we’re not seeing any kind of imminent danger. There are no migrants trying to rush toward this fence here in the McAllen, Texas, area. As a matter of fact, there are some other businesses behind me along this highway. There’s a gas station, Burger King, and so on, but no sign of the national emergency that the president has been talking about.”
Acosta even noted that it was “pretty tranquil” at the border.
Several people couldn’t help themselves from pointing out that Acosta just gave a solid defense for the border wall by showing just how peaceful the area is behind the steel slat fence.
Many took to Twitter to laugh at Acosta’s failed attempt to call out the president:
Yeah, maybe because he’s there to show that walls work, Jim. https://t.co/EaUkEJSHZF

So you went down to the border and found that there is no national emergency situation where steel slats have been erected? Good own. https://t.co/hykUVEYsfb

Er, you found a place where there is a barrier and all is quiet? Jim, do you know what point you're actually making here? https://t.co/YbZfYtyO5P

Even some Republican members of Congress got in on the fun of mocking Acosta’s video:
Glad to see the steel slats are deterring illegal immigrants from attempting to cross the border exactly as @realDonaldTrump said they would. This is why we need to #BuildTheWall along the rest of our southern border. #WallsWork https://t.co/EWJYbq78Dn

Looks like CNN just learned why we need to build the wall. https://t.co/X0INY6oLlX

This wasn’t the only video Acosta took at the border. He doubled down on his point that the border was safe in McAllen by interviewing local residents of the area so that they could explain how safe they feel.
One man, though not a fan of Trump in the slightest, echoed Acosta’s claims that the border was safe.
Jose has lived here in the McAllen TX area his whole life. He also tells me it is very safe here. pic.twitter.com/GHRlW8nKf4

This video, of course, was mocked, too:
Another local resident confirms that the area, which has a border wall, is safe: https://t.co/ki6HZjvnfx

Although it likely wasn’t Acosta’s intention, his trip to the border provided Trump and many Republicans with more fodder regarding the need for a wall.
