‘America is a Land of Opportunity Because We Are a Nation of Laws’: Trump Holds Ceremony to Honor ICE

While Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is facing backlash from some on the left, President Donald Trump just hosted a ceremony in their honor.

In just the past few months, ICE has faced facility “occupations,” racists insults to officers who aren’t white, and calls for abolishment by popular Democratic leaders, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Trump, however, has stood by ICE agents without wavering, and this ceremony was no exception.

We’re here today to salute the incredibly brave patriots who keep America safe. Everyone here today understands the vital truth that America is a land of opportunity because we are a nation of laws. For America to be a strong nation, we must have strong borders. You are the patriots and you are heroes. You are the fighters and you are the warriors for justice. You are great people.

I’m honored every single day to serve as your Commander in Chief. I will never leave your side. I will never leave the fight. I will never, ever let you down. So on behalf of a grateful nation, let me say thank you for your service. You are truly incredible people.

While some politicians called for ICE to be abolished, only 25 percent of voters feel the same way. y,” Trump wrote, “the brave men and women of ICE have recently been subjected to a nationwide campaign of smears, insults, and attacks by politicians shamelessly catering to the extreme elements in our society that desire lawlessness and anarchy.”

The president concluded the letter, writing:

Each of you has a chance and a duty to protect your communities and your constituents. I urge you to work with us, and with our brave ICE and CBP officers, to achieve that goal for the sake of all Americans, from all walks of life and from every background.

While some politicians called for ICE to be abolished, only 25 percent of voters feel the same way.
