On Monday night, Michael Flynn resigned from his position as National Security Advisor following reports that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence and other officials about his contacts with Russia. It has since been revealed that Flynn’s resignation came after the CIA spied on the National Security Advisor and leaked his private conversations to the press in an attempt to destroy President Donald Trump.
Now, Trump is firing back at the intelligence community in a big way.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Trump defended Flynn and blasted both the CIA and the mainstream media for what they had done to him.
“General Flynn is a wonderful man,” Trump said during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “I think he’s been treated very, very unfairly by the media, as I call it, the fake media in many cases.”
“I think in addition to that, from intelligence, papers are being leaked, things are being leaked,” Trump continued. “It’s criminal action, a criminal act, and it’s been going on for a long time, before me, but now it’s really going on. And people are trying to cover up for a terrible loss that the Democrats had under Hillary Clinton.”
