CNN Contributor Thinks FLOTUS ‘Doesn’t Understand’ Her Job — Melania’s Spox Teaches Her a Lesson

A CNN contributor accused first lady Melania Trump of not understanding “what it means to be first lady” following her interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity last week, but the first lady’s spokesperson stepped in to shut the criticism down.

Writing her own piece for CNN, Stephanie Grisham, Melania Trump’s communications director, called out Kate Andersen Brower’s recent opinion piece as an example of the media focusing on the negatives instead of covering the first lady’s accomplishments.

Calling Bower’s criticism an “unnecessary attack,” Grisham put the contributor on blast for “intentionally” ignoring “all the effort the first lady has put into fulfilling the traditional responsibilities of the role.”

Then she gave Bower a lesson, spelling out the many examples of Melania Trump’s outreach:
.hosting a state dinner and holiday events
.leading the efforts to restore and preserve the White House
..welcoming heads of state and representing the U.S. at a funeral
.visiting children in immigration facilities
.traveling to areas devastated by recent hurricanes
.comforting shooting victims and thanking law enforcement
.speaking to young people about addiction and opioid abuse
.embarking on a solo trip to Africa
.carrying on her Be Best initiative
“Of course, absurdity abounds in the media’s coverage of our first lady,” Grisham lamented. “Reports focus on the trivial and superficial, rather than the deeper issues facing our country that she has tirelessly worked to address.”

She continued:
The role of first lady brings with it unique opportunities to help people across the country and around the world. This is not lost on Mrs. Trump. She has and will continue to demonstrate her commitment to helping children and advancing the causes she is passionate about. But there is nothing wrong with staying true to herself along the way. In fact, her strength, individuality and integrity should be celebrated.”

Finally, however, Grisham predicted the first lady will one day finally get the credit and recognition she’s due — but made it clear Melania Trump will hold her head high regardless.

“Hopefully, the media will eventually learn to celebrate a woman who, through all the noise, is able to hold steadfast to her mission and stay true to herself,” she wrote. “Regardless, Melania Trump is proud to be the first lady of the United States and is proud to represent the American people.”
