Democrat Secretary of State Jokes About Attack on Rand Paul that Left Him With 6 Broken Ribs

Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s secretary of state and potential Democratic candidate for governor, reportedly joked about the attack on Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) by his neighbor.

The assault referenced by Grimes left Paul hospitalized with six broken ribs, a fluid build-up in his chest and a pain that made him feel like he was in a “living hell.” Afterwards, Paul also faced threats from a man who claimed to want to “chop up” his family.

While talking about the possibility of one day ousting the Republican senator from office, Grimes joked that Paul “can be beaten”:

McConnell beat Grimes by more than 15 percent of the vote after she attempted to unseat him.

Grimes is not the only political figure to joke about or encourage hostility toward Republicans. The most famous example of the past year was Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), who called on people to harass members of the Trump administration in public.
