Democrats React to John McCain Being Diagnosed With Brain Cancer — and Wow

The current political climate is toxic. There’s no way around it. The constant name-calling and over-the-top rhetoric has infected both parties.

But when it was revealed on Wednesday that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has been diagnosed with brain cancer, the tragic news appeared to peel back the layers of animosity that have become a trademark of Washington D.C.

Former President Barack Obama warned cancer about going up against the “American hero.”

Hillary Clinton agreed that McCain is “as tough as they come.”

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), Hillary Clinton’s running mate in 2016, called McCain a “hero.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi labeled the Republican a “hero, a patriot and a fighter.” She also said McCain is her “friend.”

Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) made it clear that McCain is one tough cowboy.

It’s easy to forget famous politicians are also human beings. McCain is not just a United States senator. He is a father, a husband, and a grandfather. Further, cancer really doesn’t care if your name has a R or a D beside it.

Just read what Meghan McCain had to say about her dad:

The Arizona senator, of course, received plenty of love from his Republican colleagues and President Donald Trump as well.

“Senator John McCain has always been a fighter,” Trump said in a statement. “Melania and I send our thoughts and prayers to Senator McCain, Cindy, and their entire family. Get well soon.”

Even if it’s only for a brief moment, it’s good to see Washington come together for the right reasons.

As a former president said, give it hell, John.
