Many Americans were devastated to hear about the death of Mollie Tibbetts, the 20-year-old college student who was murdered while jogging in Iowa.
Tibbetts was likely killed by Cristhian Rivera, an illegal immigrant. Authorities saw Rivera’s car following Tibbetts while she was out jogging. After questioning, Rivera brought investigators to her body.
While many were horrified by this murder by an illegal immigrant, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) told CNN that policymakers need to focus on “real problems,” like family separation at the border.

One of the things we have to remember is that we need an immigration system that is effective, that focuses on where real problems are. Last month, I went down to the border and I saw where children had been taken away from their mothers. I met with those mothers who had been lied to, who didn’t know where their children were, who hadn’t had a chance to talk to their children, and there was no plan for how they would be reunified with their children.
I think we need immigration laws that focus on people who pose a real threat and I don’t think mommas and babies are the place where we should be spending our resources.
Although Warren did concede that there are some illegal immigrants that pose a “real threat,” her real concern seemed to be family reunification. The senator didn’t say who or what situations would qualify as real threats.
Many found Warren’s comments to be a real problem.
Yea the real problem is not the murder of a young American girl… You can’t make this crap up. Is the left’s platform really defend anyone but actual Americans? I don’t know how to interpret it any other way. https://t.co/EXvkc2Tsr3

Liz Warren: Sorry your daughter is dead, but we need to focus on the lawbreaking mom at the border who hasn't seen hers for a few days. https://t.co/5GfcFJTeH8

What a horrible take, @SenWarren . Newsflash: Mollie Tibbetts was separated from her family, permanently, with zero hope ever of reunification on this earth. Kate Steinle was also permanently separated from her family. Their families would say theirs are “real problems.” https://t.co/d3GYKVr0WE

Warren is one of the most prominent Democrats to hop on the abolish-ICE bandwagon, writing, “We need to rebuild our immigration system from top to bottom, starting by replacing ICE with something that reflects our values.”
