Earlier this week, Bashar al-Assad’s regime launched a chemical attack on it’s own nation that left 83 people dead and over 350 injured. Incredibly disturbed by this, President Donald Trump responded by launching 59 Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian airbase.

Assad was hoping that Trump would be done with him after this airstrike, but he just learned that this was only the beginning.

Trump’s Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin just revealed that the president has already decided what his next move will be with Syria, and it will reportedly be economic sanctions.

“We will be announcing additional sanctions on Syria as part of our ongoing effort to stop this type of activity and emphasize how significant we view this,” Mnuchin said on Friday, according to Right Wing News. “And we expect that those will continue to have an important effect on preventing people from doing business with them.”

He added that the sanctions would be released “in the near future” but did not go into detail.

“But I would just say we view sanctions as being a very important tool, whether it’s North Korea or whether it’s Syria. These sanctions are very important and we will use them to the maximum effect,” he said.

Trump’s ultimate goal is to remove Assad from power and replace him with someone of the people who is sane.

“Through the Geneva process, we will start a political process to resolve Syria’s future in terms of its governance structure and that ultimately, in our view, will lead to a resolution of Bashar al Assad’s departure,” Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said.
