Ocasio-Cortez Trashed Uber for Driver Treatment — But Her Campaign Just Spent Thousands on the Service

In March, democratic socialist and congressional hopeful Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) blamed a taxi driver’s suicide on Uber — now her campaign has spent $4,000 using their services.

Ocasio-Cortez also trashed Uber for not providing “living wages” for their employees. She blamed the company for driving down the value of taxi medallions, resulting in the financial struggle of cab owners:

She urged Uber drivers to unionize and work to get higher wages, a move that would likely increase the price of rides in the city:

This was not her only attack on Uber. They are routinely targeted by Ocasio-Cortez for their business model:

Despite her hatred for the company, Ocasio-Cortez dropped $4,000 on rides from Uber and similar companies as part of her campaign expenditures.

Uber’s business model is regularly trashed by some New York Democrats, and New York City recently placed a cap on the number of ride-sharing licenses available in the city.

Some saw this move as having a potential to hurt members of the black community because taxi drivers are much more likely to discriminate against passengers than Uber drivers.

This is not the first time that Ocasio-Cortez’s policies have directly contradicted her supposed values like workers rights and racial equity. Recently, the company she worked for before running for office closed because of minimum wage requirements that she supported.
