The Obama family only has one more month before they move out of the White House and into a $5.3million home in Kalorama, one of Washington DC’s most exclusive neighborhoods, so 15-year-old Sasha Obama can finish out high school at the Sidwell Friends School.
Now, major renovations to the home are underway as plans have been made to upgrade the security system and change part of the garage into a home office. Daily Mail reported that construction permits obtained by TMZ also revealed that the home will be equipped with a new electrical system and a cat walk over one staircase.
Construction crews have been seen working hard at the home in recent days.
The fact that a second office is being designed for the home when it already comes with one suggests that both the Obamas will be hard at work once Barack leaves office. Some reports have indicated that Michelle and Barack could each sign book deals for a combined $20million to $45million.
Michelle has hinted that she has no intention of leaving the public eye, telling the crowd at the United State of Women summit that she fully intends to continue fighting for women’s education.
“I am so excited to continue working on this issue not just for the next seven months as First Lady, but for the rest of my life,” she said. “And it’s going to be good work, because there are a lot of good partners in this room. And I am so looking forward to really diving in.”
During a conference call with Organizing for Action, the group that works to further his agenda, Barack also said he will continue to promote his causes.
“I’m going to be constrained with what I do with all of you until I am again a private citizen. But that’s not so far off,” he said. “You’re going to see me early next year and we’re going to be in a position where we can start cooking up all kinds of great stuff to do.”
