PETA Fires Employee After He Defaced Trump’s Hollywood Star With Fake Blood on His ‘Own Time’

Matt Bruce was the latest person to deface President Donald Trump’s star on Hollywood Boulevard, and his employer wasn’t happy with his actions.

As TMZ reported, Bruce covered Trump’s star with red paint to symbolize blood. This gruesome vandalism came just days after another person covered the star in swastikas.

Bruce was a senior campaign specialist for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). While controversial displays are usually PETA’s modus operandi, the animal rights activists were not happy with Bruce’s decision to vandalize Trump’s star.

They were so mad, in fact, that Bruce told TMZ he was fired for his actions.

He took to Facebook to explain why he was fired after eight years of employment with the organization, calling out the organization for what he saw as hypocrisy while he was at it.

As PETA’s only Senior Campaign Specialist I played a major role in shutting down slaughterhouses; bringing SeaWorld down to the brink of collapse and making it so they can’t breed, import, or export orcas; knocking major sponsors off the cruel Iditarod race; passing bull hook bans, exotic animal bans, and elephant ride bans in cities across the country; shutting down Ringling Brothers; and many other victories.

On my own time, Thursday afternoon, I poured fake blood on Donald Trump’s star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. PETA caught wind of it and swiftly fired me via an angry phone call. I’m disappointed that an organization that prides itself on taking risks (and their use of fake blood) felt I went too far.”

Bruce wrote that he felt the vandalism was worth it, despite losing his job. He stated that he believes President Trump has “blood on his hands.”

“I’m happy my action made an impact and resonates with people, because no matter how you cut it Donald Trump has blood on his hands. There’s a cost when speaking truth to power, and this time I paid the price by losing my job.”

Although Bruce is now unemployed, he doesn’t seem discouraged. He wrote on Facebook, “I’m not mourning, I’m organizing.”
