Trump Puts Pressure on Dems to Fund Wall After Delaying His Own Christmas Plans Amid Shutdown

President Donald Trump delayed his travel plans for Christmas in hopes that Congress would avoid a government shutdown by passing a spending bill that included funding for his proposed border wall. After the lawmakers failed to strike a budget deal, the president put pressure on Democrats to secure our borders.

“It’s really up to the Democrats because we need their votes,” the president said in a video shared on Twitter. “There’s no way it can pass without their votes. We’re going to have a shutdown. There’s nothing we can do about that because we need the Democrats to gives us their votes.”

“Call it a Democrat shutdown; call it whatever you want,” he continued. “But we need their help to get this approved. So, Democrats, we have a wonderful list of things that we need to keep our country safe. Let’s get out. Let’s work together. Let’s be bipartisan, and let’s get it done. The shutdown, hopefully, will not last long.”

The Senate, however, was unable to come to an agreement on funding the wall. On Saturday, the federal government partially shut down as a result.
