Conservative economist and former speechwriter for Richard Nixon, Ben Stein, has had his issues with Donald Trump, so what he just said shocked everyone!
“Nobody in the Trump campaign has ever said a racist word, and yet they keep calling him a racist. He’s not a racist,” Stein told Neil Cavuto on Fox News yesterday. Stein has been in the news a lot lately for slamming the liberal elites in Hollywood.
The acting industry “is trying to shut down free debate in Hollywood” Stein noted. “That’s their favorite word to blacklist someone,” Stein said in regards to the left’s continued insistence that Trump is racist.
But Stein didn’t stop there. He also said that many in Hollywood were “thuggish bullies” that were even worse than the ones in West Side Story. Their only interest is to stop any type of debate from happening within their ranks.
Stein’s remarks were in response to Meryl Streep’s ghastly speech against Trump at the Golden Globes. Although many in the crowd cheered Streep, there were also a number of people who were visibly appalled, including Denzel Washington, Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn, and Nicole Kidman.
“(Trump is) now elected, and we as a country need to support whoever is the president,” the Australian Kidman, who also has American citizenship, recently said to the BBC. “That is what the country is based on. And however that happened, it happened, and let’s go.”
Stein said he appreciated Kidman for “standing up for what is right and supporting the president as long as he is not doing something we sincerely disagree with.” He would know, especially considering he used to write speeches for the corrupt Nixon.
The man who is also known for being the oddball teacher in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off also said he understands being blacklisted. He would have had a much more successful acting career but he made it known that he was pro-life and that was it. He didn’t get any more parts.
So my message to liberals is this: if Stein can put aside his earlier differences with Donald Trump then why can’t you? Early on, Stein also said he felt Donald Trump was a “very flawed candidate.”
See how that works, liberals? You can actually defend someone that you don’t wholeheartedly agree with! It’s called compromise, and it’s something I’m sure Donald Trump is well aware of because of his real estate development career.
This country deserves better than continued division. Breathe, liberals. Breathe! We lived through the Obama years. You will live through the Trump years.
