WATCH: Third Generation Steelworker Sheds Tears of Joy After Trump Put Him Back to Work

President Donald Trump’s recent tariffs sparked the reopening of a U.S. Steel Mill in Granite City, Illinois, bringing back 500 jobs to the blast furnace and a whole lot of emotion for one third generation steelworker.

Granite City U.S. steel worker, identified as Tony, had been laid off over two years ago and forced to work gruelingly long hours once he found other work. Now, he has his job at the mill back and said President Trump has really done a lot for him.

“It’s just nice to know that we’ve got someone fighting for us to keep our jobs. It was rough for a lot of us,” Tony said.

When asked what it means to his family and friends knowing that he is back at work, Tony became emotional as he wiped away tears and said, “That we’ve got a way of life.”

He also wanted people to know, “We’re back.”

On Thursday, President Trump spoke at the newly reopened mill. He looked around at his audience of workers and called the reopening a “great victory” and “honor.”

“Together, we are really starting to live by two very important rules: buy American and hire American,” President Trump said during his speech.

“You are the ones who are making America great again,” the president told the steelworkers.
