WOMAN SHARES HER EXPERIENCE OF PUTTING HER DOG THROUGH “GENDER REASSIGNMENT SURGERY”

A woman by the name of Mary Finlay has authored an article in The Guardian detailing her experience of putting her dog through “gender reassignment surgery.”

As Finlay’s story goes, she and her husband sought back in 2015 to adopt a female dog – female because they had experience with a female dog before and wanted to play it safe.

Of the dog Finlay ultimately chose, she writes, “she had delicate features – very feminine-looking.”

Over time, however, Finlay and her husband began to notice something odd about the dog, Molly; there was “a tiny appendage between her back legs.”

“We took Molly to the vet to get it looked at,” writes Finlay. “When the vet came back and said she thought Molly could be a hermaphrodite, I didn’t realise what she meant; I started crying, assuming she was referring to another form of cancer. But she said: ‘No, it means Molly has male and female genitalia.’”

“I was flabbergasted,” writes Finlay. “I had never heard anything like it. But we were assured that Molly’s condition could be fixed, although we would have to wait until she was older and stronger.”

Some time later, at a subsequent medical checkup, a doctor confirmed that Molly was more on the male side of the spectrum.

“She had a small vestigial penis within what looked like a female vulva and testicles inside her abdomen that hadn’t descended,” Finlay writes.

The vet explained that Molly might develop more complications later in life that would make her distressed and, as such, recommended the operation.

Ultimately, Molly’s penis and testicles were removed, with the doctor creating – as Finlay puts it – “an opening for Molly’s urethra so she could pee comfortably.”

“Twenty months on,” Finlay writes. “She’s still a cheeky little dog, full of character. She’s still unmistakably our Molly, whatever her genetic makeup.”

Finlay concludes, “when our grandchildren visit, she jumps all over them and licks their ears; she’s clearly much happier than she was before the operation. She still loves her soft toys, too – just not in the same way.”

Unsurprisingly, Finlay’s article in The Guardian has caused quite a stir.
