It seems that fan response to the political correctness in sports has encouraged at least one owner to do the right thing.
Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, told CBS News how proud he was that his team has yet to run into any problems of disrespect. “We strongly, strongly support the flag in every way we support — and it’s almost ridiculous to be saying it — the people who for generations and generations have given it all up so that we can get out here and show off in front of millions of people on television.”
Fans of football and other sports are becoming increasingly frustrated with the political messages liberals parade around during the game.
It’s not just players who refuse to respect the flag– though they are certainly the worst offenders. Even commentators try to inject political messages into sports.
Instead of being a past time we can bond over as Americans, sports programs have become a heated part of the political world. Fans are turning it off.
It isn’t just that the political slant of sports programming and athletes, but also the overt disrespect of our flag that is leaving a sour taste in every patriot’s mouth. Football, especially, has become exhausting due to political messaging, hindering viewers’ ability to relax and enjoy the sport.
Jerry Jones has had enough of the political posturing liberal players have been abusing their sports to advance. He’s taking a patriotic stance and putting country before sport. An unverified claim recently surfaced, stating that “Jones told his players ‘You will stand for the National Anthem, or your a** will be off this team.’”
He’s exactly right. Athletes might be respected for their physical prowess, but those who serve in our military deserve to be celebrated and honored because they put their physical–and mental–gifts towards protecting every American’s freedoms.
Jones is determined that his players — this season and every season — won’t ever forget that they owe our flag the same respect that they owe our veterans and our fallen soldiers.
