120 Protesters Tried to Block a Freeway – It Did NOT End Well…

When protesters in St. Louis decided it would be a great idea to block a freeway in its third straight week of protests surrounding a former police officer’s acquittal on murder charges, very bad things happened.

Police arrested more than 120 of the protesters blocking the highway, The Daily Caller reports. Drivers were warned by police about the protest blocking the highway about 7:40 p.m. local time and had the freeway cleared by about 8 p.m.

Police managed to get the group off the road, ordering them to the ground and systematically handcuffed them and put them in the back of police transport vans for a quick trip to jail.

One of the protesters was State Rep. Bruce Franks, Jr., who was shocked that he got arrested for blocking a public right-of-way.

This was the second mass arrest since the acquittal of former officer James Stockley in the 2011 shooting death of Anthony Lamar Clark. He was found not guilty on Sept. 15.

On Sept. 17, 130 protesters were arrested in what they called a “kittling” operation – an action that prompted complaints and misconduct lawsuits from the ACLU and others.

Steven Hoffman, a legal observer for the National Lawyers Guild who was there to monitor police behavior, said police didn’t use chemical agents while making arrests, according to the Post-Dispatch. The detail is crucial as the ACLU’s earlier lawsuit centers on police misusing chemicals like pepper spray during the previous mass arrest.

No retaliatory lawsuits have yet been filed in the wake of Tuesday night’s arrests.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the scene:

Protesters were nearing Market Street when they were met by a police line and they moved onto the sidewalk.

The protesters chanted: “We don’t see a riot here. Why are you in riot gear?” and “Touch one, touch all.”

Police ordered protesters to the ground, then began systematically handcuffing them and packing them into about a dozen police vans.

After the sweep, police did not release any information on the number arrested or the charges, but St. Louis Alderman John Collins-Muhammad said 126 people were taken into custody.

Police spokeswoman Schron Jackson said Wednesday morning that police made 143 arrests of people for blocking traffic. Police were still compiling names, addresses and charges, which were expected to be released later.

Outside, a few dozen protesters whose friends were among the arrested spent the night on the front lawn and sidewalk of the Justice Center. They set up eight tents. Some had gone on a snack run before sunup. They said they were waiting to help bail friends out, once charges are filed.

You can expect howls of protest from leftists who will most certainly complain about their mistreatment, but what do people who block an entire freeway expect? What do you think? What is to be done with scores of leftist protesters who refuse to disperse an illegal protest?

Having the police arrest, handcuff them and haul them off to jail en masse is probably better than running them over.

What do you think? Sound off below with your comments!

its not right to block public access to a highway, fire trucks, ambulances, police patrol are just a few to mention, people have to get home to their families. I’ve read where hot headed motorist run over them !! I wished that we would do what I see Europe does to protesters ( as long as children are not involved ) Police have water blasters, it must be strong pressure, they run and leave. Problem solved

people take a chance of injury when they protest, things like this ,there is no reason to stop people from going home, what do the protesters a small fine, wrong they need fines up to 10,000 dollars and 30 days in jail, lose of jobs and no state aid.

It was a lot of extra work for the police who could probably have been better employed elsewhere. The protesters were treated very well but I do think strong heavy water hoses would be a good alternative and should be invested in.Especially for when the weather gets colder.

Thumbs Up for St. Louis Police – this is exactly what needs to happen – I’m So pleased the Police arrested – handcuffed- and immediately jailed them – This is exactly what they deserved – All cities should do this – then maybe they would learn not to block streets and highways.

The only problem the police have is that DAD-GUM ACLU right behind these criminals. I wonder what would have happened if one of the protesters had had a family member in a car a bit down the highway trying to get to a hospital?

I agree with all the above comments. Yes they have a right to protest hold a d demonstration in a park or open ground, people might be inclined to listen more if you don’t directly intefer with their daily lives. Any one of the emergency services gets caught up on the blocked highway could be life or death to someone/someones.

If they or anyone blocks a freeway, I say arrest them. That is no way to handle things. Some cities allow such nonsense like this go on without accountability, so therefore people think that they should be able to close down freeways anytime they feel like it. Officals are afraid to do anything to blacks because they are afraid of the lawsuits that are going to come later. Stupid. Other race groups don’t do things like this. Blacks think that they can do anything they want to just because they are black. It’s time for this to stop.

I think anyone blocking roads, are total trash, if anyone tried to stop me, I would treat them as a threat and have no chose but to run them over, then ring the Police and report what has happend.

There is absolutely no excuse for these individuals to be blocking the freeway which is breaking the law. The police had no choice but to arrest them especially if they did not comply with the police officers orders. There are many reasons why we need law: to regulate society; to protect people; to enforce rights and to solve conflicts. Laws prevent or deter people from behaving in a manner that negatively affects the quality of life of other people, therefore the consequences of breaking the law often fit the crime. These protesters are sick demented people who refuse to abide the laws.

Well done, St. Louis Police Dept!

Protests are supposed to be peaceful. It’s against the law to block businesses, government buildings and public roads.

Protesters like these have been getting away with all of this in most of our cities for several years now because liberal mayors, liberal city councils, the ACLU and liberal judges refuse to uphold our laws.

And lets not forget law-ignoring, criminal-sanctioning people like State Representative Bruce Franks Jr and Steven Hoffman, a ‘legal observer for the National Lawyers Guild who was there to monitor police behavior’.

People are fed up with our police not being allowed to do their jobs as well as the blocking of traffic that often includes ambulances, fire trucks and emergency responders who are trying to get somewhere in order to save lives.

Also, many motorists have found out the hard way that if they stop, THEY become victims of violence from the protesters. It’s because of this violence that some states have even passed laws saying a motorist will not be charged if they drive through illegal protest lines like this one.

The St. Louis Police Dept most likely saved some lives by not allowing these imbeciles to block that highway. But then, those imbeciles won’t ever figure THAT one out since THEY’RE too dumb to even move out of the way when they see a vehicle driving down on them!

  27. Rep

    October 5, 2017 at 2:15 pm

Quick Fix…arrested for unlawful protest (blocking a hwy), lose your driver’s license for 3 months. That will stop this nonsense fast!

  28. Bruce

    October 5, 2017 at 2:15 pm

Arresting them means nothing if they are not actually punished. They may be issued tickets, and then some liberal judge will throw them all out. See it happen too often. No media coverage of the aftermath. Without punishment there is no deterrent.

How about the purpose for the protest, does that even matter? Maybe if people like yourselves were a bit more concerned about the purpose/reasoning for the protest, just maybe you wouldn’t see or have to deal with them because there would be know reason to protest. Just saying !!! Keep ignoring and they will keep trying to get your attention.

Round them up and lock them up ,has always been the answer to stopping these thugs and those who are getting paid to promote violence. If they are found out again there should be harsher penal;ties given out. They were allowed to run ram pet when Obama was in the White House , as he was promoting violence and racial division. He is a Phony and a Traitor and is still causing discord and sticking his nose where it does not belong. Rules should be followed and no last minute Marches. There should be no signs promoting violence and no covering your faces and carrying weapons of any kind, period. We can agree to disagree but this is terrorists activity, plain and simple. No more shouting, “What do we want , Dead Cops”, as this is inciting people to do acts of Murder and cause violence. The Police are now allowed to do there job again, Thank God.

It’s time to stand up against these nitwits. Someone could have easily been hit by a vehicle and who/what would have been the charge. Protest if you must in an open clear area no disruption traffic. If any of these arrested are illegal aliens they need to be deported immediately. The rest of the idiots should have to appear in court and have heavy/excessive fines imposed, and if they can’t pay the fine put their asses in jail for 6 months. Let Soros and gang pay for promoting lawlessness and havoc! These idiot politicians should be dismissed immediately!!!

What should have been done was done! These protesters know it’s illegal to do this but in the past the police just let it happen, so they expect to continue to get away with it. The public has nothing to do with the officer’s acquittal so whether or not the decision to acquit was arguable or not, take your fight to the people who made that decision, not the innocent public! The best part is that the state rep. also got what he deserved for sharing in this! Politicians seem to think they are above the law! His constituents need to vote his butt out since he wants to act the part of a moronic leftist! Great move by St. Louis police dept.!
