CNN claimed this week that President Donald Trump is “off track” on his promise to create jobs — even though the network has not updated its “Trump Jobs Tracker” to hold the president accountable since January.
CNN Digital launched the “Trump Jobs Tracker” in an effort to tell its audience whether Trump is keeping his promise to create more jobs that boost the economy, but the network has not updated its data since January 5.
The network claimed that Trump was “off track” to fulfill his promise to create 25 million jobs over the next ten years—or 208,333 jobs a month—because the U.S. economy added just 1,839,000 jobs since Trump’s inauguration.
However, the network failed to update its information with the latest data on the U.S. economy.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced Friday that the U.S. economy created 3 million jobs—an average of 250,000 jobs a month—since Trump took office in January 2017.
The latest jobs report for the month of February showed that the economy added 313,000 jobs—which is well above the Trump administration’s promise to create 208,333 jobs per month.
The reason for the lack of updates on the tracker may have to do with the network shedding up to 50 jobs in February.
CNN’s digital team laid off the staffers as part of a restructuring effort last month in an effort to cut costs after the company missed its target profit for 2017.
